North-Somerset Intercultural Dance Association (NIDA)

A friendly social group to promote healthy and happy life styles through regular dance and exercise

North-Somerset Intercultural Dance Association (NIDA) is a fantastic social community group for people to meet, share their knowledge and experience and have good times through dance and exercise. The group was established in early 2009 and there have been regular dance sessions held in Nailsea on Friday evenings since then, with members from Nailsea & Backwell, Clevedon, Portishead, Bristol, Weston-super-Mare, and the surrounding areas. NIDA exercise/dance sessions are open to all, encompassing all age groups and abilities, bring together indigenous, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. You are warmly welcome to join this group. There is no need to book a place, just turn up and join the dance and social networking.

A typical NIDA session would start promptly at 8:00pm to include a warming-up exercise, a guided practice for basic Latin dance steps such as Salsa and Cha Cha Cha, followed by a line dance session. Towards the end of the dance session, a simple 'Clap Your Hands' or similar dance style is often performed in which people all dance together around a circle. Refreshment is then served at around 9:15pm.

All of NIDA's dance instructors are volunteers from the group, so the major costs to cover are the hall rentals, public liability insurance and refreshments. Currently the members contribute £2 per week (refreshments included). First session is free for new members.
